About Florida Energy Calculations

In the state of Florida all new construction projects must submit a completed Form 405-10 along with the signed & sealed drawings to the permit office. This meets the requirements of Florida Building Code of Energy Conservation.

Projects that do not have air-conditioning or heating are exempt from being required to submit energy calculations. The project must not have provisions for future air conditioning. Keep in mind that any area that is considered Living Area and will be Conditioned will require an Energy Calculation. Also, if an area was previously Unconditioned and now being brought up to Conditioned Living Area an Energy Calculation that includes the room is required.

The Florida Code provides for a uniform standard of energy efficiency by setting  the minimum requirements for exterior envelopes, lighting, electrical distribution, and selection of heating, lighting, ventilating, air conditioning and water heating systems.
